Double podcast! A Chat about Theory of Constraints with Guest Clarke Ching and a Graduate’s Journey at Skyscanner
Posted on by Richard DavidsonWe missed a week on the blog, so this week we have two podcast episodes.
First we have our first non-Skyscanner guest.
Clarke Ching joins us to discuss Theory of Constraints and the benefits of using these techniques at a software company like Skyscanner.
Clarke is an Agile and Theory of Constraints expert. Born in New Zealand, he now lives in Scotland with his wife, Winnie, and their two children, Aisling and Alice. He discovered ToC in 1996, Agile in 2003, and has dedicated much of his working-life since then to combining the two. He has an MBA in Technology Management.
Shownotes:
Clarke’s book “Rolling Rocks Downhill” is available here at Amazon.
Suzanne attended the Global Scrum Gathering in Orlando. Check back here for videos of the talks.
As well as Clarke’s book, the “go to” book on Theory of Constraints is The Goal by Eli Goldratt, available here on Amazon.
Or if you prefer, there’s the movie! The trailer is remarkable.
We chatted about bite-size books on Agile; one of my current favourites is this one on impact mapping.
Next we have ‘A Graduate’s Journey’. In this episode we have a conversation with Enrique and Nicolas, two of our newest developers, who joined Skyscanner as part of our graduate recruitment program. We discuss what it was like moving from university to working at a company like Skyscanner, the change of culture and how they keep their skills sharp.

Our book club is currently reading Exponential Organisations, which is available on Amazon here.
If you are looking to join Skyscanner then take a look at our jobs page here.
Or take a look at some startups that are hiring at Angel List.
This episode was recorded in Barcelona and Edinburgh making use of Zencastr.
The Hackers guide to Python was one of the sources of learning we mentioned and is on Amazon.
And if you are in Barcelona and want to talk to like-minded fans of Python then why not come along to the next meet up?
Also of interest in Barcelona in terms of meet ups are the PHP meet up and the Free Software meet up.
